What is Science Olympiad?

SciOlyLogo2_edited.png

Science Olympiad is an organization that gives students the opportunity to show off their scientific skill through regional, state, and national competitions. Schools will send at least one representative team of 15 students to compete in 23 events, all of which fall under 5 categories: Life, Personal, & Social Science, Earth & Space Science, Physical Science & Chemistry, Technology & Engineering, and Inquiry & Nature of Science.

What We Do

Each year, we hold tryouts to determine teams for the upcoming season. Once those teams have been decided, students will prepare for their respective events with the partners they've teamed up with. Depending on the event, students can take written practice tests, work on builds for test runs, or perform experimental labs. Teams will typically meet at least once a week so they can work together and bond. After preparing for months, teams will finally be able to compete at various high schools or colleges in the region, like UC Berkeley. Outside of competition, there are also opportunities for fundraisers and volunteering to encourage scientific interest in our local community!

Why You Should Join Our Club

Expand Your Scientific Interests

The science field is broad, so why not start early in high school and explore as much as you can? The events change annually, so it's the perfect opportunity to learn and venture into new things.

Build Community & Friendships

Science Olympiad is more than just studying. At competitions, we usually grab boba together for good ol' team bonding! More often than not, the people you partner with for events become friends as well.

Develop Character & Work Ethic

Yes, preparing for competitions can be tough with all the studying, building, or testing. However, you grow from the experience and gain grit, patience, and time management skills.

College Applications

We know you want to look good for college apps. We are aware.

...

It's a good thing this club would jazz up your resume :-)
